Damned If You Don’t

"Generally, Shepherd University does not cancel operations because of inclement weather. Unlike the K-12 schools, the University has different operational issues and its students are not minor children thus, if severe weather conditions render it dangerous for students to reach the University, those who fail to travel to campus on that particular day will not be put at a serious disadvantage.

Poor Health Care at Shepherd University?

After recently acquiring the flu and making a much needed trip to the health center at Shepherd University, I noticed when brought up in conversation the health center receives very diverse reviews. There was a mixture of indifference, satisfaction, or complete disgust.

Mexico’s War on the United States

If I were a liberal Glenn Beck, how I would prove (illogically) that Mexicans will be the next terro

Dear America, I hate to be the first one to say this but it seems that no one else will.  Mexico plans to wage war against the United States.  Not just Mexico but the U.S. Government is using our tax dollars to end the democratic way of life.

Chances are if you had a health class in high school, you learned about STDs, sexually transmitted diseases.  They were formerly known as VDs to our parents' generation (venereal diseases).  Add STIs into the mix, sexually transmitted infections, and suddenly things have gotten confusing.

Cliques in College: A Bad Thing?

High school was a time where jocks would hang out with other jocks; preps would hang out with other preps, and so forth. To put it simply, high school was nothing more than a home for clique. I never did understand why students always tend to gravitate towards cliques, but they do! Maybe it's a comfort issue for people who want to be immediately accepted.

What Are They Feeding Us?

The Dining Hall has been known for its questionable cuisine.  However, has it ever been so bad that kids stop eating there?  The answer is: yes.  It has come to the point where students are deciding to avoid the Dining Hall and eat elsewhere.

Groundhog Day

Another Groundhog Day has come and gone once again.  It was another chance for the fat groundhog to see his shadow.  However, he did not see it this year.  Winter, by tradition, will be presumed to be shorter this year.  This will be the first time in a long while that he did not predict a longer winter.

Inspirational State of the Union?

As unconvinced as you may be, Obama IS keeping some promises

As many of you may already know, The State of The Union took place this past Tuesday, January 25th. I have been a supporter of Obama since before he was elected and do have my own criticisms of him, as everyone has the right to. However, the one thing that has always irked me is the statement: "Obama hasn't done anything.

Registering and Voting

Politics in the United States is very black and white. When we look at past and current politicians, we see only two political parties: Republican and Democrat. Politics have become so polarized, which leaves only a one-way street for people to travel down.

If E! News has taught me one thing, it's that celebrities are out to discourage the common man that money can buy happiness.  Every time a new celebrity couple breaks up, the juvenile part of me that takes Ryan Seacrest seriously late at night winces.

Snow Plows at 4 A.M.?

After last year's fiasco of "Snowmageddon," Shepherd didn't take any chances with the tiny snow accumulation on January 17th.  Snow plows were out in force before classes on Tuesday morning.  Not only were they out in force, but they were operating at four A.

Fear and Loathing in Shepherdstown

One student’s anxieties about a post-graduation life

Graduation should be a time of great joy. The completion of a higher education should be one of the most euphoric times of one's young life. The work in the wee hours of the morning and the dedication of driving in the snow and walking in the rain have all culminated in a degree, certifying that I am an educated member of American society.

“Teen Mom” encouraging Teen Pregnancy?

Today, reality television shows are regularly viewed in a college kid's dorm room. Some of these shows include: "The Jersey Shore," "Teen Mom," "Keeping up with the Kardashians," and many more. These shows all have one thing in common: doing degrading things in order to entertain an audience.

The Solution to Violent Rhetoric and Gun Control

Whenever there is a massacre such as the one at Tucson, all the gun control nuts come out of their closets.   But hey, people kill people, not guns.  Don't let any of these "closet dwellers," if you know what I mean, tell you differently.

Why the New Rambler?

Shepherd has decided to upgrade the Rambler cards for the spring semester.  Instead of the nice blue and yellow design with the Shepherd logo along with your picture, the new one has a yellow background with your picture and McMurran Hall on the other side.

The over-thinkers among us (myself included) have a lot on their plates.   Besides agonizing over dull, daily events, off-hand comments in conversation, and the like, life's little analysts who are in relationships have to add romance's pitfalls to their plates.
