Buckcherry never claimed to be the band to deliver poetic or thought-provoking lyrics. They did, however, take a sacred vow to, at some point, get chicks everywhere to drop their panties.
With their fifth studio release, the aptly named "All Night Long," Buckcherry sets out again to play the songs that will make someone's drunken girlfriend get on a table and dance. These are, after all, the guys that brought the world "Crazy Bitch" with sentimental lyrics like, "Hey, you're a crazy bitch / but you [expletive] so good, I'm on top of it." Listeners should expect the same material from "All Night Long."
The title track starts the album off with a high energy beat and simplistic rock and roll. Most of the songs follow in the same vein: "Recovery" and "It's a Party" deliver the gravelly, high exhilaration performance of the band's front man, Josh Todd. Though the tracks can start to blend together in their tales of hot parties and loose women on the prowl, the music itself is packed with enough energy to keep a party moving from the bar to IHOP at 5 am.
In addition to the heavy rocking, the band slows it down at points to reflect (albeit briefly) on troubled relationships and even…pollution? Even rockers care. "Our World" is the band's cry to save--you guessed it--Earth. Nice effort, guys, but the track seems to be a weak point and out of place with the rest of the album. Though the band is fully capable of pulling off a slower, more remorseful sound--just think back to "Sorry"--"Our World" doesn't quite deliver. Better to skip over it and to spend that extra time absorbing the heavy-in-a-good-way "I Want You," which packs the punch that Buckcherry can deliver in between trying to corrupt people's girlfriends.
For a tear your panties (or boxers) off album that you'd like to dance drunk on a table top to, "All Night Long" can provide.
