1st Inning Since this is our first issue back after the break, congratulations to the Shepherd football team for its history-making run to the national semifinals. It was a pleasure to cover such a fantastic season. 2nd Inning The Packers and Steelers will face off in Super Bowl XLV on February 6.

Women's Basketball Update

  Though the Shepherd women's basketball team has encountered its first losing streak of the year, losing back to back games, they still have their eyes set on a WVIAC championship. "We're going to have to fix things quickly or we have a long month or two ahead of us," coach Melanie Ford said.

Men's Basketball Roundup

While the men's basketball may have gotten off to a slow start, the Rams have pulled it together to get within three wins of .500. After starting out the season at 3-6, the men have rebounded to go on a 4-4 run.  Of the losses, two of them came by a combined 15 points  and the team has looked impressive in wins over Glenville and heavily favored Fairmont State.

After staying undefeated for the majority of the season the Shepherd Rams fell to the Glenville State Pioneers on Saturday, ending their once perfect season. "We let them hang around to long and let them go down and score, they made more plays today than we did," Shepherd coach Monte Cater said after the loss.

Rams beat Slippery Rock 83-70 and fall in double overtime to Edinboro 106-95

The Men's basketball team is off to a 1-1 start after the weekend's Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge. The Rams beat Slippery Rock 83-70 in the opening game and then fell in double overtime to Edinboro, 106-95. Though the Rams started their season with an opening game win for the first time since 2006, Shepherd coach Justin Namolik didn't want to put to much weight in the loss or victory.

Red Raiders hit buzzer beater in 94-92 win over Rams

The Women's basketball season got off on the wrong foot with a double overtime loss to the Shippensburg Red Raiders, losing 94-92. The Red Raiders' Shawna Wert made a lay-up in the finals second to give Shippensburg an upset victory, but the Rams aren't letting one game cloud what is a long season ahead.

The Fairmont State Falcons dealt the Shepherd University Rams an upsetting five game loss on Senior Night last Wednesday. The intensity was high in the Butcher Athletic Center as third place Shepherd hosted second place Fairmont State in a West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) game.

It was a rough week for Rams women's soccer fans as the team came up short in the final stretch of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Rams fell to both Pitt Johnstown and Alderson-Broaddus. Despite the losses the Rams put forth some valiant effort.

Shepherd's undefeated football team sits atop the NCAA's initial Division II Super Regional One rankings that were released Monday evening. All Division II teams in the country are divided into four super regionals, and the rankings are used to determine which six teams from each region qualify for the national playoffs.
