When an athlete takes the field their fans and biggest supporters are usually the spectators, but for four members of the Men's Soccer team, their biggest fan is right there on the field with them. Bobby and Kevin Doyle and Jeffers and Griffin Frazier are brothers and teammates.
Jeffers Frazier is a senior Recreation and Leisure major with a concentration in Fitness and Exercise Science. Younger brother and freshman, Griffin, remains undecided with his major for the time. Jeffers has been playing soccer for about fifteen years and Griffin has been playing for fourteen years. The Frazier's decided on Shepherd for the opportunity to play soccer together.
"Sometimes it is hard because I am the captain of the team and he feels that I pick on him more than other people but I am pretty sure we both enjoy being on the same team and so do my parents," says Jeffers.
Jeffers' is a forward, while Griffin plays center midfield. Having a brotherly bond and having been playing soccer for a long time, has helped their game immensely. "We play well together for the most part. We both know each other's game so that's to our advantage," says Griffin. Jeffers and Griffin are a very competitive duo. "No matter what we're playing, whether it is soccer, basketball or even video games, we both really want to win," says Griffin. Jeffers adds, "There is a huge competition between us no matter what it is, we both try to be the best."
Off the field Jeffers likes to snowboard, golf, workout, and watch football. Griffin enjoys all sports and beating Jeffers at FIFA.
Bobby Doyle is a senior Health and Physical Education major. Freshman brother, Kevin, is a Computer Engineering major. Just like the Frazier's, the Doyle's decided on Shepherd for the opportunity to play soccer together. "Kevin and Griffin met during a recruitment visit and got along well so it seemed like a good fit," says Bobby. Competition is not as high between the Doyle's as it is with the Frazier's. Bobby says, "We have competitive moments but it's just because we both like to win. It's nothing but love when the game or practice is over." Kevin adds with a laugh, "When we were younger there used to be a lot more competition between us but now that I'm just as tall as him I usually beat him in everything." Bobby and Kevin have a very close-knit relationship, which helps with their game. "It's kind of weird but we can basically read each other's minds," says Bobby. Kevin admires and really knows what kind of player his big brother is. "Since I've grown up watching his games I've had a lot of time to figure out his style of play and how he likes to do things," says Kevin.
Other than soccer Kevin and Bobby share many of the same friends, so from the field to social activities the guys are together. Additionally, they both are avid snowboarders.
Being teammates is temporary but being brothers lasts a lifetime.
